In 23 states, low -pay workers worked with a promise of great salary in the new year, thanks to a widespread increase in minimum wages.
A progressive think tank, according to a recent estimate by the Economic Policy Institute, will benefit 8.4 million workers, according to a progressive think tank, from 23 cents per hour in Michigan to $ 1.50 per hour in Michigan in Nebraska. On the other hand, many states still have effective minimum wage, which does not exceed the federal minimum $ 7.25 per hour, either because they have no minimum wages or are set at or below the lowest wage allowed by federal law. The map given below shows where the minimum wage is standing, and how they changed when 2023 came.
Over the years, progressive politicians and organizations have demanded to increase the federal minimum wage above their current level. As advocates have reported, a person working 40 hours a week on minimum wages earns only $ 15,080 per year, below the federal poverty level of $ 27,750 for a family of four. Democrats tried to increase wages as part of an epidemic relief bill in 2021, but the effort was surrounded by a narrowly divided Senate. Meanwhile, many states have taken matters into their own hands.
Apart from the statewide growth, 27 cities and counties across the country are also promoting their minimum wages, the EPI calculated. Some of this year’s growth was the result of the epidemic-era laws, while others were automated adjustments from old laws. At the top of the growth that is effective with the New Year, Connecticut, Washington, DC, Florida, Nevada and Oregon have been designed to increase their minimum wages later in the year.
