The filers should send their returns on time or get an extension to avoid paying fine. According to the latest IRS information, more than 101.4 million people filed their taxes till 4 April, and 67% received a refund.
This year, taxpayers received an average of $ 100 more in refund compared to last year. About $ 211.1 billion has been returned, the average amount is $ 3,116. It is probably a welcome probe for many Americans, who are squeezed by persistence by high inflation and advanced lending costs.

- Use free filing services, such as IRS Direct File and IRS Free File. However, keep in mind that these services are available only to some tax filers.
- You can use free IRS resources including interpretation services, telephone and local support, and free assistance from IRS-certain volunteers.
- Some tax law questions can be answered by IRS’s Interactive Tax Assistant Tool.
- If you do not think you will be able to enter your taxes with a time limit, apply for an extension that gives you till October 15. However, you still have to pay what you are outstanding by the deadline of April.
- Avoid general mistakes and errors on your tax returns, such as providing wrong name or wrong social security numbers.
