Cameron (Mo.) Regional Medical Center Administrator Joseph Abrutz recently gave a letter to President Donald Trump, who was calling for immediate federal reforms to maintain rural hospitals-especially the so-called “twinner” features that come between significant access and large hospital classifications.
In the letter, Mr. Abrutz appreciated the renovation of President Trump and credited his Kovid-Eugration Relief Policies with helping rural hospitals such as Cameron Regional-Navigate the 60-Bed Acute Care Hospital-Extreme Financial Financial Challenges.
However, Mr. Abrutz warned that the gender effects of the epidemic – medical inflation, workforce and a combined reimbursement scenario – has created a “right storm” by endangering the survival of rural hospitals.
The Cameron Regional Northwest serves a clinically underscreed, a 10-account area in Missouri and works without local tax support. Mr. Abrutz said that the hospital receives a bill of only 30 cents per dollar on an average and offers a wide range of “desert services” – including maternity, dialysis, behavior health, dharamshala, and free transport – which are rapidly rare in rural areas.
His main concerns are the increasing influence and reimbursement challenges created by the Medicare Advantage Plan, which he described as “defeat” for rural hospitals. He also criticized the managed Care Medicid, also criticized the hospital payment cuts, ACA-inspired cost burden and the ongoing medicare sequence on patients.
Mr. Abrutz proposed to construct a new federal designation – “Rural Security Net Hospital” – with the needs of population, service width and norms associated with community poverty levels. He urged policy makers to implement cost-based reimbursement, cut funding, improve or eliminate MA schemes and remove medicare sequences for rural future payment systems hospitals.
“Without the major bilateral support and important positive financial views from the Congress,” he wrote, “Twinner hospitals will have to make extremely difficult options regarding rapid services and access … to close.”
