Shell earned an adjusted earnings of $ 5.58 billion in the first quarter, or $ 0.92 per share, defeating expectations from analysts voted by visible alpha.
The company said its $ 3.5 billion buyback plan, similar to the fourth quarter of 2024, authorized at least $ 3 billion in its 14th consecutive quarter.
“Our strong performance and flexible balance sheet assures us to start a bioback of another $ 3.5 billion for the next three months, which suit the strategic direction in its Capital Markets Day in March,” said Shell’s CEO Well Sawan.
Like rival BP (BP), the shell is in the middle of pivitting away from low carbon strategy. The result is the first time in March at its Capital Markets Day in March that it will increase its upstream and integrated gas business by 1% annually through 2030. Unlike Shell, however, BP cut its first-time stock buyback amid economic uncertainty.
