    key takeaways

    • According to surveys, companies are raising prices in response to President Donald Trump’s tariff campaign.
    • Some companies are giving full cost to customers, while others are eating some costs themselves.
    • Some companies have started emailing customers to know that prices are increasing due to tariffs. A luggage company emailed its customers to tell them that they are raising prices in response to the “dumpster fire” tariff.

If there was any doubt about who would eventually pay the cost of Donald Trump’s new import taxes, then there is a clear answer to businesses: Customer.

It has been released according to recent surveys and anecdotes collected by Federal Reserve Banks and this week. This week, separate survey results released from some regional fed posts found that companies in their area are passing some of some of some tariff costs.

Most businesses in New York and North New Jersey passed at least some tariff costs to customers – a third manufacturers and 45% service firms passed with full cost, found in a survey by New York Fed in May. The April 1 survey of regional businesses by Atlanta Fed found that most of the firms would have passed some of the minimum tariff costs to customers, about 20% said that they would pass at the full cost of a fictional 10% tariff.

At the top of it, Fed’s “Beige Book” compilation of reports from across the country was filled with stories about businesses to increase prices for increased costs of imports.

Surveys and reports highlighted a question with domestic budget and major implications for the economy: how much will Trump’s tariffs raise prices for everyday goods and services?

Since February, Trump has implemented a dizzy and often changing array of import taxes, including 10% tariffs on goods in most countries and 25% tariffs on many foreign cars. On average, the goods imported from abroad are facing 15.6% tariffs, the Yale Budget Lab has been calculated last week.

Who, in fact, paying the cost of those tariffs has been politically explosive. Amazon attracted a barrage of criticism from the White House in April, as he planned to show the cost of tariff on the price tag in his online store. Similarly, Trump exploded Walmart when his officials stated that tariffs would increase prices, and the President demanded the retailer to “eat” the cost of tariffs.

    Dear Valuable Customer …

As recent surveys suggests that customers will at least be reduced to some of tariff costs, companies are giving bad news to their customers. Companies in various industries are emailing their customers and warning them to increase value, blameing tariffs.

For example, Typology, a company that sells Skincare products imported from France, emailed its customers to tell that it was absorbing the cost of tariff too much, but was applying “slight price adjustment” between 0.5% and 4.5%. Tonis, the manufacturer of an audio player for children, said it raised prices for some of its idols from $ 14.99 to $ 19.99.

Béis, which sells imported goods, went viral on LinkedIn last month, which was specifically for clear emails about unexpected tariff policies.

The company’s marketing team wrote, “This tariff position is a full dumpster fire, and we are all burning.” “The cost is increasing, and unfortunately our prices have to follow the suit.”
